Hot Hot Haute: My Annual Summer BBQ

Today’s long overdue blog post is brought to you by (almost) Wordless Wednesday!

Here’s a quick drive-by share of my annual BBQ.  We just barely beat the 100 degree heat that followed the Derecho that slammed the mid-Atlantic but there were plenty of  good friends, cold drinks and food to help us forget our troubles.

Hope you like!

Take it Take it to the Floor. Show ’em Show’ em how you roll…drop it drop it drop it low… (Pt 1)

My kids LOVE the movie RIO. The music, the birds and of course car-na-val!

I’m always in awe of  designers who can take a commercial theme and put a creative spin on it. With all the preprinted ,prepackaged supplies readily available at your local party supply, it can be hard to have a fresh take on your favorite characters.

And when there are no party supplies for your favorite characters…it’s REALLY hard.  So in general I just steer clear.

Around August I start thinking of a master plan for my kids’ birthdays. This year my oldest turned 5 and was very opinionated on the topic: ” Mommy I want a RIO party”.

Cirque Du Eden presents: 2! A dancing elephant sideshow. (pt. 1)

On December 10, 2009, after a particularly tumultuous year I gave birth to a teenie tiny 4lb 4oz spitfire who is a superstar in her own right. Everyday we’re treated to performances that rival Ringling Brothers’ best show. So when it came time to choose a theme for my baby girl with the larger than life personality, nothing was more fitting than pink dancing elephants.

Say it with me 3 times fast: Bumpin’ Backyard BBQ in Balmy Baltimore

I  kicked off my summer with the big BBQ I  longed for back in March when winter had more than overstayed it’s welcome.
Warm sunny days always call for a celebration and we couldn’t think of a better time than 4th of july to gather up 70 or so good friends and family, a fantastic DJ and some ‘que.

I’m currently in love with brown kraft paper  and designed the invitation and color palette around an excuse to use these adorable brown kraft envelopes.

Since I knew some of my biggest HauteSugar fans would be in attendance, we put together a summer inspired dessert display complete with Burger cake , Strawberry shortcake sliders, Maryland crab cookies,  berry parfait cups,  cupcakes and Smores!

Had a great time with some of my favorite people. Looking forward to another great summer!

Spring Bling: Our Toddler Chic Easter Brunch

We’re  so excited to share our spring party!

One:  because it was a lot of fun putting it together

Two:  because I firmly believe we know and love some of the most beautiful and  sophisticated toddlers/ preschoolers around!

When we started putting together the design we immediately thought about a lot of the traditional soft pastels and chocolate bunnies but after considering the guestlist, we thought it warranted something with a bit more sparkle for our favorite Haute kids.
