My kids LOVE the movie RIO. The music, the birds and of course car-na-val!
I’m always in awe of designers who can take a commercial theme and put a creative spin on it. With all the preprinted ,prepackaged supplies readily available at your local party supply, it can be hard to have a fresh take on your favorite characters.
And when there are no party supplies for your favorite characters…it’s REALLY hard. So in general I just steer clear.
Around August I start thinking of a master plan for my kids’ birthdays. This year my oldest turned 5 and was very opinionated on the topic: ” Mommy I want a RIO party”.
I’m back with the final post in the Cirque Du Eden series!
The most difficult part about planning parties for my 2 winter babies IS winter. Finding the right entertainment is a close second- which is why I was excited to book Silly Goose and Val to perform for the kids.
We sang. We danced. We laughed… and my house is still standing.
The dessert table featured an elephant topped chevron cake, macaron tower, elephant wars ( petite palmiers)cupcakes, chevron and elephant cookies and white chocolate mousse.
Chevron bags filled with a memory game, necklace, elephant shaped soap and and elephant shaped crayons were give to our guests as a thank you for celebrating with us.
Now on to Christmas. Happy Holidays!

Details! Details!
I’m back to share more details from our Cirque Du Eden birthday party! I have so many great elepments I want to share that I’ve had to break this party into multiple posts!
Today I have photos of the party decor and tablescape. I used lots of vibrant hot pink and orange with a dash of turquoise throughout.
The room was filled with big lofty balloons and the walls were papered with sideshow posters ,ruffled paper streamers and garland.

I used a tutorial by Nicole of Tradewind Tiaras to make fabric covered party hats for each of the kids and set one at each place setting.
Chevron is one of my favorite patterns . Once I saw how great it looked in Eden’s party dress, it was a no-brainer use the pattern as the backdrop for the dancing elephants.
Even the chairs were dressed to dance with tulle skirts.
We dressed up the tables with cheery pink and orange gerber daisies and added lots of ribbon and bling to the paper vases.
The best part to sitting down to the vibrant table was the food! Guests were treated to french crepes catered by the fabulous Matt of the Omelette Guys!
I ‘m considering adding a French spin to all of our party themes just so we can eat crepes more often.
Délicieux!
Be sure to check back for part 3 of Cirque Du Eden! In the last installment I’ll be sharing the details of the dessert table and party favors

On December 10, 2009, after a particularly tumultuous year I gave birth to a teenie tiny 4lb 4oz spitfire who is a superstar in her own right. Everyday we’re treated to performances that rival Ringling Brothers’ best show. So when it came time to choose a theme for my baby girl with the larger than life personality, nothing was more fitting than pink dancing elephants.
There’s probably nothing scarier in the blogosphere than a silent blog. So before real ghosts take up residence in our quiet ( but not abandoned) space, we wanted to share the Halloween party we put together for some of our favorite munchkins.
It was a perfect Fall day for finger food, desserts not-so-spooky fun with the little ones.
We served up some bat wings, creepy crackers, ghoulish guac, sandwitches ( terrifying turkey and howling ham), and slasher salad.
We washed it all down with some ” Roots on you” beer.
For the frightening finale we polished off a spider infested cake, bat cake pops, pumpkin cookies, delicious doughnuts , cupcakes and plenty of candy!
Once we got this wide eyed bunch hyped up on all those sweet treats , we sent them home with their parents before things got really scary.(<—-that’s the trick)
Muwahahahaha!
Happy Halloween!
